Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is a world-renowned public research university, consistently ranked among Europe's leading academic institutions. Founded through the merger of the Netherlands School of Commerce and Rotterdam Medical School, it takes its name from the philosopher Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus.
The university is organized into several prominent schools and faculties, including the highly ranked Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus School of Economics, and the comprehensive Erasmus MC academic medical centre. Other key faculties cover Law, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Philosophy, History, Culture & Communication, and Health Policy & Management. This structure supports a vast portfolio of bachelor's, master's, and PhD programs, many taught in English, with a strong emphasis on research and practical application.
EUR fosters a highly international environment, with a significant portion of its student body coming from abroad. While the university provides limited on-campus housing, primarily for upper-year international students, it assists others in finding private accommodation in Rotterdam. Student life is vibrant, supported by an extensive sports organization (Erasmus Sport) offering dozens of activities and numerous cultural and social clubs. The modern, multi-campus facilities, including a major library and research labs, complement its position in the dynamic, globally connected port city of Rotterdam.
